Realtek Semiconductor, a world-leading network and multimedia IC provider, launched the world’s first 4K UHD set-top box SoC (RTD1319D) that supports the latest video compression standard – Versatile Video Coding (VVC/H.266). Support is also provided for GPU with 10-bit graphics, multiple Conditional Access Systems (CAS), and HDMI 2.1a.
Realtek’s RTD1319D is the first set-top box SoC to support new VVC video decoding technology that offers much improved compression performance over a wide range of set-top box applications. In addition to a powerful embedded Arm quad-core CPU, the RTD1319D’s advanced GPU features the latest Arm microarchitecture and provides 10‑bit graphics capability, as well as optimized and enhanced Android TV Leanback UI performance. The chip also supports AV1 and HEVC decoders, advanced HDR standards, diverse high-speed interfaces such as USB3.0 and PCI-e, in addition to various CAS functions to offer the best platform solution for set-top boxes. The HDMI 2.1a interface supports 4K features for an enhanced consumer experience. In addition, the RTD1319D has built-in DVB demodulators and multiple TS interfaces to respond to different broadcast signals simultaneously. Realtek is one of the few silicon vendors to possess a complete portfolio encompassing Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip and Bluetooth remote control unit solutions, which ultimately simplifies the system integration process for ODM partners.
The RTD1319D is a dedicated set-top box SoC that meets far-field voice, secure encryption/decryption, and high-speed Wi-Fi network requirements. It improves the user experience and enables the set-top box to play a key and creative role in the home media center.
“In recent years, the penetration rate of 4K set-top boxes has grown tremendously, while pay-TV operators continue to face the challenges and pressure imposed by cord‑cutting”, said Realtek’s Vice President and Spokesman, Yee-Wei Huang. “The RTD1319D set-top box solution is a highly integrated, high-performance platform, offering state-of-the-art functions that meet the ever increasing demands of the rapidly growing 4K set-top box market”.
Realtek’s representatives will be available at IBC 2022 (September 9-12, RAI Amsterdam).
